These boulders did not look nearly this spectacular while we were there. This shot was taken by Larry during a previous trip. The soft mudstone containing the boulders was raised from the sea bed around 15 million years ago and sea erosion of the cliff is exposing the erosion-resistant boulders. The best time to photograph the boulders is at low-tide, usually around 1pm. In the distance is the town of Moereki. While in Moereki, we dined at Fleurs, some of the best seafood in New Zealand. It was started by Fleur Sullivan, known for opening the renowned Olivers Restaurant in Clyde. After a fight with cancer, Fleur moved to Moereki to be close to her mother and the sea. Gwyneth Paltrow ate there and apparently (?) liked the town so much she offered to buy it (eeeh gads).Photo by Larry
