Aconcagua 2006
Photos from Aconcagua (22,841'), Argentina, the highest mountain in South America, in 2006 with Aventuras Patagonicas. We ascended to the top through the spectacular Guanacos Valley and descended the dismal normal route. I joined my former boss from Clorox, Chip, along with his hiking buddies and several other men. Not unusual - I was the only female. This was my second trip to Aconcagua. I was on the Vacas Valley route with Alpine Ascents in 2003 but we turned back at 20k feet due to a storm. It's not so bad returning to a mountain when you can see two other routes. We were heartbroken to hear that our enthusiastic team member, Joe Bohlig, perished on Mount St. Helens four years later in 2010. It was his 69th hike to the top of his favorite peak.Mountains Menu
