Frog Lake
Truckee Donner Land Trust’s Frog Lake Backcountry Huts offer comfortable accommodations in rugged terrain. Set at 7,600 feet, Frog Lake sits on a lateral granite moraine, surrounded by late-seral red fir and Jeffrey pine. There are a few ways to reach the huts. Due to bad weather and the proximity of Alder Creek to our homes, we opted to skin in from the Alder Creek Adventure Center - we also have cross country ski passes at Tahoe Donner (req'd during ski season). This is a six mile walk with roughly 1,300 feet of elevation gain. Just a few days before our departure in April, there was hardly any snow and we were prepared to spend the weekend hiking in our shorts. But a storm hit the day we hiked in and brought us fresh powder the next day. Then we hiked out in another storm and that ended the snowfall for the 2022 season.
