DL Bliss
The Rubicon Trail from D.L. Bliss to Emerald Bay is an easy and stunning 8 mile out-and-back hike with roughly 925 feet of elevation gain along Lake Tahoe. Duane Leroy Bliss (1833 to 1907) was a timber and mining magnate who anticipated the tourism potential of Lake Tahoe. In 1893, he converted his logging trains on the northwest shore of the lake to passenger service. Bliss’s Lake Tahoe Transportation Co. was later connected to Southern Pacific’s international rail service to Truckee. Some of his valuable mountain land was later donated to the State of California and named D.L. Bliss State Park in his honor. Tahoe Trails Menu
